TRA is at the forefront of rail transit
safety and security through the development,
implementation, and administration of State
Safety and Security Oversight services. TRA
currently performs these services for
numerous state departments of transportation
and comparable agencies.
TRA's role in State Safety and Security
Oversight is scaled to match each particular
program. The role ranges from augmenting the
oversight agency's existing capabilities by
performing triennial on-site reviews and
associated work to cooperating with and
administering the oversight program on a
daily basis. TRA works with the individual
Safety or Security Oversight Program
personnel to develop, operate, and manage
appropriately scaled programs. Using its own
staff and specialty contractors, TRA
assembles technical teams commensurate with
the state's or jurisdiction's requirements.

Safety Certification.
Through its State Safety Oversight
programs and as part of independent
projects, TRA works with transit agencies to
develop, establish, and execute safety
certification programs. TRA’s experience and
skill include development of safety
certification programs, monitoring program
progress through committees and at project
sites, and monitoring workarounds and
corrective actions for new start transit
lines, line extensions, new stations, signal
systems, vehicle procurements, structures,
rulebooks, and other areas.

As
Needed Safety Assistance.
TRA works
with organizations to provide as needed
safety assistance to solve safety
problems. This assistance includes
conducting and training safety
professionals on safety inspections;
assisting organizations in closing out
safety recommendations and corrective
actions; preparing organizations for
external and regulatory safety audits;
and providing technical advice to safety
problems.
