Max Smith helps agencies implement and continuously improve safety oversight, plans, and programs.
Mr. Smith is a Senior Consultant specializing in transportation safety oversight, continuous program improvement, and program implementation. His experience includes driving state safety oversight agency (SSOA) growth and development, planning and executing audits, risk-based inspections, safety and security certification oversight, and corrective action plan (CAP) oversight, conducting reviews of agency plans, policies and procedures, and hands-on work as part of National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) and other safety event investigations. He provides transportation authorities and government agencies with the approaches needed to achieve positive results through effective oversight and clear, concise communication. In addition, Mr. Smith has built and developed data management systems, processes, and automations to increase the efficiency of safety oversight. He plans and implements processes, audits, and inspections, and quickly synthesizes technical information, data, interviews, field observations, input from team members, and strategic goals to determine, direct, and deliver productive paths to continuous improvement.
Mr. Smith also has experience as an award-winning reporter covering transportation, government (federal, state, local), elections, and other topics.
He primarily supports the Maryland Department of Transportation’s State Safety Oversight Agency, which is responsible for oversight of the Maryland Transit Administration’s Light RailLink, Metro SubwayLink, and Purple Line light rail projects.
