TRA provides ongoing safety and security oversight support to the MDOT RSOP. TRA has performed multiple Triennial Safety and Security Reviews at MDOT, including in 2004, 2007, 2010, and 2013.
In all of the reviews, TRA experts provided detailed and practical findings and recommendations for improvements to the overall safety and security of the MTA Light Rail and Metro systems.
In addition to these scheduled reviews, TRA has also performed special audits and studies covering a diverse range of topic areas, including Roadway Worker Protection, Hours of Service, and the Operations Control Center.
TRA helps provide ongoing programmatic and administrative support to the RSOP by reviewing and processing key program documents, including regularly updating the MDOT Rail Safety Oversight Program Standard, and reviewing the MTA System Safety Program Plan and Security & Emergency Preparedness Plan. TRA has helped provide policy support to MDOT as the program transitions to achieve full compliance with the new MAP-21 requirements for SSOAs.
